Wellington Porcelain Veneers
Wellington porcelain veneers are available from Gumucio Dental. Veneers are among the many options for cosmetic dentistry today, and they may be the right solution for you. We provide basic dental care and a wide range of cosmetic dentistry treatments, including dental implants, porcelain crowns, tooth-colored fillings, clear orthodontic aligners, and porcelain bridgework. The following information will answer questions you may have about Wellington porcelain veneers.
What are porcelain veneers?
Wellington porcelain veneers are custom-made shells designed to cover teeth on the front surface. Veneers are wafer-thin, and they are made with tooth-colored materials. At Gumucio Dental, we will bond your porcelain veneers to the front of your teeth, resulting in a significant improvement in your smile. The shape, size, color, and/or length of teeth can be changed with porcelain veneers.
In addition to porcelain, veneers can be made from resin composite materials. We advise our patients to go with porcelain veneers because they look very natural. Porcelain has light-reflecting properties similar to natural teeth, and they resist stains better than veneers made with resin materials. Resin veneers are thinner, and before placement, less of the tooth surface must be removed. We will discuss which type of veneer material is best for you when you come in for an appointment at Gumucio Dental to discuss giving you a smile makeover with veneers.
What problems do porcelain veneers fix?
Wellington porcelain veneers provide an excellent solution in the following circumstances:
- Teeth are worn down.
- Teeth are broken or chipped.
- Teeth have gaps.
- Teeth are uneven, misaligned, or have bulges or craters in them.
Teeth are discolored. This could be because of root canal treatment, excessive fluoride, or stains from tetracycline antibiotics. The presence of large resin fillings can discolor teeth, and porcelain veneers can hide the unsightly staining.
What steps are involved in getting porcelain dental veneers?
Three visits to Gumucio Dental are usually required to get Wellington porcelain veneers. One of the visits is a consultation, and the other two visits involve making and applying your porcelain veneers. The process is the same, whether you are getting one porcelain veneer or many.
Consultation. During the initial visit, your teeth will be examined, and our dental professional will discuss the procedure as well as limitations of veneers. X-rays may be taken as well as possibly impressions of your teeth and mouth.
Preparation. Preparation for Wellington porcelain veneers involves removing approximately ½ millimeter of enamel from the surface of the tooth. A local anesthetic will be used, which you will have previously discussed with your dentist. A model or impression of your tooth will be made and sent to a dental laboratory, where your veneer will be constructed. This generally takes between one and two weeks. For patients with very unsightly teeth, temporary veneers can be placed, at an additional cost.
Bonding. The final step involves permanently cementing your Wellington porcelain veneers to your teeth. There is more information about this step, which your dentist at Gumucio Dental will discuss with you.
